What is Set in Poker?

Set is the name given to three of a kind made using a pocket pair in the hole. If the three of a kind is not made with a pocket pair, it is more commonly referred to as ‘trips’. The term set is most commonly used in the Hold’em and Omaha variants of poker. Sets are generally stronger than trips since they are more disguised (two of our cards in the hole, rather than one).

What is OOP in Poker?

OOP stands for “out of position” in poker. Being OOP means to act first on each betting round which is considered a big disadvantage. What is Three Pair in Poker?

Three pair is an expression used by Omaha players to indicate that three of their hole cards are paired. Of course, three pair is an impossible hand since it would mean we were using 6 cards, so three pair is really a two pair type hand. However, indicating that we hold three pair is relevant, since although the third pair doesn’t count toward our current hand strength, it does increase our odds to make a full house by the river.

This hand would be described as a boat “Queens full of Jacks”.
